 Character

     (general) A letter, digit, punctuation mark, or special symbol stored
     and processed by the computer.

     (data type) A special data type consisting of one or more values in the
     IBM extended character set.  Characters can be grouped together to form
     strings.  The maximum size of a character string in CA-Clipper is 65,534
     bytes.
