1. I've inserted the CD but it's not installing. How do I install the CD?

Installing is not necessary to run Practice Anatomy Lab. If you wish you can copy the entire contents of the CD onto a local folder and double left-click on index.html in that folder to launch into your default Internet Browser.

2. Practice Anatomy Lab does not start automatically. What should I do?

How to run CDs when your Autorun feature is turned off:
1. Insert your Practice Anatomy Lab CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon. (If you have Windows XP it may be under your Start button)
3. Single right-click on your CD-ROM drive and select Open.
4. You should now see the files and folders that are located on the Practice Anatomy Lab CD-ROM.
5. Find the file named index.html and double-click to launch into your default Internet Browser.

3. I am running Practice Anatomy Lab and screens do not seem to be loading. In the place where I expect something to appear, I only see a plug-in icon. What should I do?

The Flash plug-in may not be installed correctly for your browser. Visit the Adobe Flash test page: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/. If your plug-in is installed correctly you will be able to see a flashing graphic under the FlashPlayer heading. You can confirm that the version installed is version 8 or above by holding your mouse cursor over the about button in the graphic. If you do not see this graphic, you should visit http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer to download the latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer.

4. How do I navigate to the activities, such as quizzing?

Each module (Human Cadaver, Anatomical Models, Histology, Cat Anatomy, Fetal Pig Anatomy) contains a number of body systems. Each body system contains three activities (Self-Review, Self-Study Quiz, and Lab Practical Exam).

First choose a module, using the drop-down menus or buttons. Then in the same way, choose a body system. And finally, choose one of the three activities.

It is recommended to start with Self-Review to study and review and hear pronunciation of anatomical terms. Then move to the Self-Study Quiz, to quiz yourself and get immediate feedback on your answers. And finally, move to the Lab Practical Exam if you think you're ready to take a simulated lab practical exam.

5. I cannot hear the audio pronunciation that should be available in Self-Review. What is wrong?

Make sure the main volume control on your computer is not turned down or muted. Make sure the volume control at the top of Practice Anatomy Lab is turned up. (Click on the speaker icon and adjust the volume slider as necessary.)

6. How can I upgrade my browser?

Practice Anatomy Lab requires Netscape 7.2, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, FireFox 1.5, or for Macintosh, Safari 1.2 (OS 10.3 and higher). To upgrade your browser, download an upgraded browser directly from www.netscape.com, www.microsoft.com, www.getfirefox.com, or www.apple.com

7. I have AOL as my browser. Why isn't this website working?

To use our websites, your computer should have Netscape 7.2, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, FireFox 1.5, or for Macintosh, Safari 1.2 (OS 10.3 and higher).

8. Macintosh only: My browser gives me a message that it is running low on memory. What should I do?

Try quitting any other applications you have open. If this does not work, check to make sure that you've allocated enough memory to your browser. To do this, locate the "Netscape" program on your hard disk. Click on it once and select "Get Info" from the "File" menu. A good starting point for Netscape 7.0 is 26,000K. If the memory allotted is less than this, try allocating more memory to your browser. In the information dialog box under Memory Requirements increase the Preferred Size. A good starting point for Netscape 7.0 is 26,000K.

9. Macintosh only: I have enough allotted browser memory or I've increased it as suggested above, yet my browser continuously gives me a message that it is running low on memory. What should I do?

Having too many temporary files can block information from being viewed properly. You might need to clear out your temporary Internet files. Try quitting Internet Explorer. Restart your computer and open Practice Anatomy Lab in your browser before searching other websites.
10. Internet Explorer gives me a message saying that Active Content is blocked. What should I do?

As of May 2005, Microsoft has decided to modify how their browsers interact with active content such as flash movies.

If you are running from CD: A popup box will warn that "Active Content can harm your computer or disclose personal information. Are you sure you want to allow CDs to run active content on your computer?" Simply click ok to dismiss the dialog box and Practice Anatomy Lab will load. To prevent the popup from appearing again, make sure "In the future, do not show this message" is checked.

If you are running for a local folder: A yellow bar will appear near the top of the window warning active content. Click on the bar and select "Allow Blocked Content" to use Practice Anatomy Lab.

In addition, you may have to click once in the space occupied by Practice Anatomy Lab to begin using it.

11. CD-Rom: I have AOL as my browser. Why doesn't my CD-Rom work?

The CD-ROM runs through Netscape 7.2, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, FireFox 1.5, or for MACs, Safari 1.2 (OS 10.3 and higher). (Note: Internet access is not needed to run from CD-ROM.)
