Getting fired from McD's is great fun

Posted by: Stu Berwick ( UK ) on August 15, 1996 at 20:29:08:

As an ex-McD's part-time employee, I would like to recount a
formative experience in my life so far: the day my
store manager demanded my resignation.

After much hard-work I had notched up 3 verbal and 2
written warnings for my conduct. Examples of my errant
behaviour included:

* While bored, attempting to ring up exactly 99.99 worth of
goods on my till to see if it was possible to fill the 4-digit display.
This entailed a lot of
part-cancelling (deleting one or more items from the till), a
practice expressly forbidden. Unbeknown to me, my
failed attempts at combining 20 Big-Macs with 650 McNuggets were
recorded, leading management to belive that I had attempted to defraud
the store of about two thousand quid.

* Persistant use of novel acronyms in place of the incredibly
inane official ones

e.g. WPFAAT instead of FIFO - the customer doesn't want to know
that the products are undergoing First In First Out rotation;
he/she should realise they're being sold the Worst Possible Food
At All Times!

* Ridiculing company mottos e.g.:

"If there's time to lean, there's time to clean!" which obviously
became "If there's time to clean, there's time to lean!"

Unable to tolerate such insubordination any longer, and still
unaware of the basic principle of good management (that having
respect for your staff engenders their respect for you), my manager
demanded I resign, which I duly and gladly did.

What a fine institution McDonald's is. An textbook example of
the equation of 1980's business culture:

Maximum Exploitation = Maximum Profit

Cheers,
Stu

"There's nothing quite like a McDonald's" - indeed.
