My husband and I have worked for several different franchise owners in
the St. Paul, MN area. We can attest to low wages, wasted food
products--some even used in the preparation of McDonald's salads and
sandwiches. We were supposed to work with "magic" or improperly serviced
equipment, and many times cleanliness was overlooked do to poorly trained
help or the owner's greediness which was termed "high labor costs". We
believe that McDonald's is perfectly capable of paying a liveable wage
and hiring less help, not only to benefit the workers, but also their
customers, and ultimately themselves.Strictly from a psychological standpoint, low wages translates into low respect for most workers and
exploitation--we were denied breaks in violation of MN labor law during
our period of employment with McDonald's.
