minimum shift lengths in australia

i do not know if this has already been brought to light but in
australia they are signing mcdonalds employees up on what is
called a 2 hour contract.

This contract means that if they are rostered on to work a shift
it can be a minimum of 2 hours. Considering i have friends who
would drive at least 15-20 km (1 mile is 1.6 kms) to get to work
at mcdonalds, the amount of money earned in such a shift would
barely offset travel expenses.

The other part to the contract means that if you come in to
work a shift and they realise that they aren't busy and don't
need you, they can send you home after 2 hours.
They make all new workers sign this contract or 'agreement'
before they employ them. Or should that be exploit them.
