: Basically - Do I stand by McDoanlds because they are my employers, who I think are an excellent company in many respects (RMCC for example), or do I let my concerns for global matters dictate my future career. From what I have read here it sound's as if you have already made up your mind. You obviously enjoy the concept of a career built under the golden arches. Just how important are global issues to you? What about social issues at a local level? I truly hope that you really will be able to make a difference.
One of the issues you should be considering is lowering of living standards. Not just in the Third World but also in the West. We are slowly loosing important living skills such as cooking, cleaning, even reading. More and more we are leaving the provision of these more intimate daily routines up to large corporations. And it's all because we perceive that we don't have enough time to do these things ourselves.
These large corporations are having increased control over our daily lives because they are having more of an influence on the making of our laws. Laws that effect our living and working conditions to, in effect, make us into drones. The company will look after us as long as we devote our hearts, minds and souls. We won't have to worry about a thing.
It used be that democratic governments were there for the people but now they're there for the corporations. This is probably because we have become too relaxed in our attitudes. No fault of the corporations. They're just taking advantage of an opportunity.
McDonalds is not the only culprit and by no means the worst. However the supply of food and sustainable agriculture is becoming more of an issue for the Industrialised nations. If we have nothing to eat then we'll die. McDonalds is a prime target because of they're ubiquitous nature and due to the fact that the agricultural practices they rely upon are totally unsustainable.
Global matters should dictate your career because what you do to this planet or allow to happen to this planet will eventually be returned to you. Good luck!
: I guess the other problem is justifying a 120mb site devoted to slating McD's when it is not necessarily the best way about solving the global problems of which McD's is just a VERY small part.
