I've invested over seven years busting my ass for the golden arches
and I've worked at both corporate and franchise stores in management
positions. Here's what ruined it for me.

1.TEENAGE KIDS THAT DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS ABOUT DOING THEIR JOB WITH PRIDE.
I suspect the reason for this is that if they get fired they'll just walk
across the street and get a job at Wendy's for the same money.

2. INTERCOMPANY POLITICS (management level backstabbing) and

3.PAT ANSWERS. The last store I worked for (a franchise) was owned by
Ed Schmidt - maybe some of you recognize the name - and while I think
Ed is a great guy (and he payed well, for the industry)
WHEN YOU HAD A QUESTION YOU WOULD GET AM "OFFICIAL MCDONALDS RESPONSE".
Example: Me:Hey Ed what's with the microwaves, the lettuce on my Big Mac
has turned black and the club has all but disappeared in a frightening goo?

Ed: Well Jeff, everything get's "a shot" to increase the internal
temperature so that the sandwich stays hot longer.

Me:Well it's certainly hot-but it's damned near inedible.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect the switch
to microwaves was made purely to increase production and profit margins
while reducing labor costs?

Ed:Well, Jeff, everything get's "a shot" to increase the internal temperature
so that the sandwich so that the sandwich stays hot longer.

Me: Well what about McRibs? They sit in a vat and marinate
in hot barbecue sauce half the day, why would you need to increase the
internal temperature there? To get the bun all nice and soggy?

Ed: Well, Jeff,everything gets...

In the end I learned one thing (well, many things actually) -
most importantly: THERE ARE MILLIONS OF OPTIONS FOR ALL OF YOU.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO SETTLE FOR A FOOD SERVICE INDUSTRY JOB IF YOU
DON'T WANT TO.
