Several years ago, in northern Ontario, I believe, Some
Mcdonalds employees attempted to establish a union. Unfortunately, I have
no definite details on this subject at this time, but i will recount what
I can from memory, and I think I know where to go to get details.
A small group of employees in one store, led mainly by one girl, tried
to organize a union so that they could get more representative pay as
well as much better (read: tolerable) working conditions. Needless to
say, the management did its best to convince other employees that this
was a bad thing, I believe they made veiled threats, and they even
managed to get the entire community to lash out at the leading girl. In
the end, her original cohorts deserted her due to the pressure and fear,
and the union was crushed. You may have other such stories already, but I
thought you may be interested anyway. Remember, this is from an
admittedly spotty memory, but I will try to dig up the appropriate issue
of the local paper and get you the correct information.
I think this website is absolutely fantastic. If only many more
people either knew this information, and other such truths, or else (more
importantly) didn't dismiss it as radicalism, as happens far too often. I
try to mention this case and the reasons whenever I can. I'll try to get
back to you.
None.
