So you think we should stop telling the truth about McD. - Reply to the Nit Nurse

You asked:

> > Do you consider it better that those who work in McDs were
> > unemployed than working under the current regime?

I replied:

( there are not only two possibilities. The third option is of
course for McD workers to fight for the rights that McD denies
them and try to put pressure on the corporation to improve the
working conditions within its stores).

Your uttered :

> [Rather weak attempt to pretend that there is a 'third way']

And I say:

Ok Nit Nurse, so you say there _is_ no third way. If this is
true then we should either put up with the current regime at
McD and donÆt voice any criticisms that may offend the
corporation or risk the closure of the company that would
mean unemployment for all McD workers. Now judging by what you
have already said you obviously recommend the first option.
So letÆs take your argument to its logical conclusion shall we
and :

Advise any McD worker who has grievances not to rock the boat
lest s/he loses their job.

LetÆs tell the worker who is forced to work with faulty and
dangerous electrical equipment; "you couldnÆt possibly complain. CanÆt you see, at least you have a job thanks to McD!"

LetÆs ridicule those who get angry with the humiliating way
they are treated at McD. After all they have nothing to
complain about because not only they have a job but they are
paid more than the average wage in that sector. The fact that
this extra amount is so tiny is beside the point.

LetÆs tell those workers who try to replace the stage-managed
company-run "rap sessions" with proper TU meetings not to be
ridiculous. Who are _they_ to decide to join a trade union when
we all know that TUs have never done anything positive for their
members. WhatÆs more, if they get victimised by McD as a result
of joining a trade union they have only themselves to blame.
After all only the "subversive reds" and "the Militant sympathise
rs" support trade unions.

LetÆs remind the workers who protest against being forced to
continue working hours after the end of their shift and well
past the midnight that they are too small and insignificant to
stand up to their bosses. LetÆs tell them :"shut up and get on
with it before you make your managers angry and force them to
punish your disobedience by reducing your working hours from 40
to 10 per week". After all isnÆt it true that the workers at McD
are "flexible" and therefore the managers have every right to
alter the length of their shifts at will?

LetÆs not forget that if it wasnÆt for McD, many crew members
would have been unemployed. Therefore the crew members canÆt
really complain if every now and then they are asked to work on
a floor thatÆs covered with sewerage up to their ankle.

McD after all has a business to run. So itÆs totally reasonable
for it to expect itÆs workers to interrupt their rest days to
turn up for work if the store is busier than anticipated or clock
out and wait until it gets busier if the store is quieter then
expected. CanÆt these workers see that they are employed and
paid by McD and should therefore be open to any abuse?

LetÆs cheer up the girl who has just done a 26hr shift by
reminding her that at least she gets paid a descent wage for that
- certainly more than that kitchen assistant who earns only
ú2.30ph so why complain?

LetÆs pretend there is nothing wrong with asking the underage
workers to continue working long past midnight and then send them
home without even paying their taxi fare. True, this may be
illegal and inconvenient for those particular workers but isnÆt
it better than being unemployed?

LetÆs tell the worker who has just been splashed in the face by
hot fat because of faulty equipment due to managers negligence
to look on the bright side for at least he is not dead and
whatÆs more, he has still got a job. And what about the crew
member who has just slipped onto the red hot grill and badly
burnt both arms because of æhustleÆ? Shall we tell her the same
thing. I am sure this would make both of them feel a lot better.

And what about those workers who have had to regularly work
through 12hr shifts without a break, have been force to serve
customers with a smile, been penalised by cutting their food
ration on breaks, been regularly asked to cut their break short
when there is a sudden rush of customers, been continuously
insulted and shouted at for removing the meat off the grill one
second late, been regularly sent out on the street on
"rubbish collection" mission as punishment..... What shall we
tell them? shall we tall them : "oh well, better be employed
than protest against this unfair treatment".

No Nit nurse. Don't insult the intelligence of the workers and
keep your crap advice to yourself. I know for sure that McD
workers hear enough of this kind of advice from their own
managers and they are fed up of it. They donÆt need someone
like you, The Arch Apologist for McD to tell them more of the
same. Thanks.

PS. you keep insisting that the prime objective of McSpotlight
is to close down McD (how dare they even entertain such a
horrible thought!) but you have no real evidence for it do you.
Now to find out how wrong you are I refer you to æDO YOU WORK
FOR MCDONALDÆSÆ leaflet that is all about how to fight
to _improve_ working conditions at McD. You can find it on
McSpotlight.
