Union vs. McD Finland coming soon...

Posted by: Markus Nieminen ( Finland ) on September 18, 1996 at 01:35:05:

Mc Donald's Finland is going to court and they'll pay.
Mr Kim Hanslin (managing director of McD Finland) says:
"Let's make Mc Donald's to be the best working place in Finland!"
I think that Mc Finland is best place to work for HANSLIN,
but not for workers.

Negotiations with Mc Donald's' so called "big bosses" haven't been
possible. They keep us as "not dangerous". But they'll see
someday in one of the biggest magazines in Finland, that they
did a BIG MISTAKE when they didn't wan't too cooperate.

There was a story about us in Unions magazine already and this is
just a beginning. And greetings to Mc D "bosses" in Finland:
If you read this or receive this message somehow...

...YOU DID A BIG MISTAKE!

Here's somethings that Employees and McD argue with in Finland.

1. Training time

Usually everybody here belongs to union, which (in Finland) is good
thing. Well, the main problem is "training time" which lasts over a year
(payment this time is 29FIM/our = about 6 dollars). Normal payment (after
training time) is 39FIM = 8 dollars. You have to do SOC (station
observation check) -lists before you will get the raise. But they say
they don't "have time just now to do those". Fuckin' Great! This legal
action is going to be in local newspapers by us soon and Mc Donald's will
try to pay us silent but they won't succeed. Quality in Finnish Mc
Donaldsses is good, but payments are extremely low (tax rate in Finland
is the highest in the world = 40-50%). By the way, the price of Big Mac
Meal in Finland in 30 FIM = 6 dollars.

2. Sickness

If you are sick, you stay at home, and with a paper from doctor
you get full payment. Only thing is that on next period
(3-weeks) Mc Donald's gives you work for only few days.
So you can't be sick, if you wan't to work after sickness.

3. According to Mc Donald's rules whole closing group have to
leave McBuilding together for the security reasons. Only lousy
thing is we won't get money for the time we sit and wait
manager to survive with paymentroll prints etc. etc.
(15 minutes every night).

4. Quality and Cleanliness

....is just a joke. There is ten minutes rule with hamburgers.
(If burgers are older than 10 minutes you should throw those to waste.
Well it doesn't work. Sometimes burgers stay at bin over an hour.
When i ate at work, i always did my own burger...

5. Payment

Well, if you are interested, the minimum wage (what they pay,
because they have to..) in restaurant business in Finland is
37,29 Fim per hour = 8,2 $ per hour, (tax rate in Finland is
about 40%, prices are very high -> Big Mac meal is 30 Fim
(6,7$), Levis 501 Jeans 399FIM (89 $).
So don't wonder why i need green card visa for U.S.A....

6. Everybody works for money

...all you get for work is somemoney, but human being needs
also feelings of succeed, thanks, etc. etc. The teamwork in
Finnish Mc Donaldsses is lousy (including managers)

7. Recycling

...is a big joke. In my ex-restaurant we had recycling
cans for several stuff but in the evening everything was
thrown to the same can. So it is just an advertising trick...

Note! Usually working conditions in Finland are much more
better than in US because of Trade Union. Mc Donald's Finland
is so much opposite, that they will be noticed!

Send me mail, if you need details, wanna tell own story,
anything...
