: Nice to hear from the silent majority for once!!!
: For you information Cindy - they have nothing to do whatsoever with Greenpeace. They call themselves London Greenpeace in a cheap attempt to boost theit own image!

*Sheesh* I can't even go away for a month any more...

First off. London Greenpeace has existed since 1970/71 (A. knows the exact date). Roughly the same time as Greenpeace "International" which was founded in Toronto. Both groups started off with roughly similar ideals - green revolution through non-violent protest. In the intervening years, Greenpeace International has become a multi-million pound organisation. London Greenpeace has remained roughly the same size. London Greenpeace was, however, the first UK group to bear the Greenpeace name.

Given that Greenpeace is given to threatening libel writs against people they feel are hijacking the name, London Greenpeace would be in hot water if they _had_ copied it from Greenpeace International. They didn't. In fact, although London Greenpeace would never press it, they have the "right" to the name in the UK, as they were there first.

Greenpeace International has become a victim of its own success. They have assets to lose, they have lost their connections to the grassroots (in the way that Friends of the Earth haven't). They have become another corporation in many ways - not to say that they don't do some good things, but they are vulnerable to concerted attack by corporates like Shell in the way that small grassroots organizations like London Greenpeace aren't.

: The real Greenpeace is, as far as i know, not "to happy" with the situation.

A slight whiff of "deus ex machina" there, perhaps - since Greenpeace International aren't likely to be reading your messages, you feel you can put words into their mouth and ascribe them to the charity. Would you care to quote a source and a date for your "not too happy" remark, - or are you just producing hot air?

Again, as I said, in the UK, Greenpeace International _cannot_ _touch_ London Greenpeace, as London Greenpeace existed 6-7 years before Greenpeace International arrived in Britain.

As to the original poster, I'll be happy to leave McD's alone. When they have stopped the following activities;

Needless cruelty to animals.
Industrial pollution on a planetwide scale.
Cultural imperialism on a similar scale.
Irresponsible promotion of an unhealthy diet.
Exploitation of people throughout the planet.

On a direct and indirect level, they are diminishing the quality of my life as well as yours (even though I don't go there). As such, I feel entirely justified in taking potshots at them.

Gideon Hallett.
