The medical literature is "groaning" with the dangers of a
high fat diet, including junk food and meat. So, for you
meat eaters who complain against vegetarians, here's your
proof:Journal of Fam. Practice: 1995, Vol-Issue 41, pp. 560-568,
Authors: Esselstyn, Ellis, Medendorp and Crowe:Abstract: 22 patients over the age of 50 with severe coronary
artery disease were studied. The idea was to try to get a group
of 11 taking a diet of less than 10% fat (also taking cholesterol
lowering medications if their cholesterol didn't go under 150)
and compare them with the other 11 who ate the "SAD" diet--or
the "Standard American Diet."After 5 years a significant regression of plaque was DEMONSTRATED
in the very low fat group. The Coronary artery disease was
COMPELETELY arrested in the less than 10% fat group who kept
their total cholesterols under 150! 5 "diet drop outs" recorded
an additional 10 episodes of cardiac events (heart attacks).So...Meat eaters, there's your proof. It is impossible to keep
a diet of meat and remain under 10% fat intake for middle aged
men. Now, there is ample evidence that children are different
and some studies report possible dangers of lowering the fat
content for children excessively. But that's another subject. It is certainly possible for a vegetarian diet for children to
include enough fat for significant and adequate neural tissue
growth. The inclusion of fatty cheeses would easily accomplish
this--for vegans, fatty nuts and things like peanut butter would
increase the fat content
None.
