: I think parents should spend more time teaching their children to see advertising for what it is instead of working to regulate it. I let my children earn money doing chores and since I started doing this they have learned to be more choosy about what they purchase. They have even been "burnt" a few times by buying something that doesn't live up to its advertising. I agree with you about parents responsibiliy. But only because the capitalist firms behave so irresponsibly. When it comes to regulation though, I could not disagree more. Do you think it is correct the adverts should be misleading t all so that we and our children get "burnt" before we find out for ourselves what we get is not what the advertisers claim it to be. So why not force the companies to tell the truth about their products via legal restrictions?
: I don't like the idea of government regulating advertisements. It's conceding to the idea that we can't make informed decisions ourselves.
You miss the point completely Ginger. We want to be able to make informed decisions ourselves. That's why we want to be told the truth about products rather than let the advertisers get away with telling lies to sell more. You can not rely on adverts if you wish to make informed decisions as you told us yourself earlier about your children etc. etc
