Let's talk issues

As much fun as it is lashing the unions, I guess I might as well talk about the issues of this particular strike: Who controls the pension plan and the use of part-time workers.

I completely side with UPS on the pension plan. First, why should they have to pay pension to the thousands of lazy bast...excuse, me, the thousands of teamsters around the country? But even more so, would you want your pension money controlled by an organization whose leaders have time and time again been jailed? If I had to choose between having the Corleone family and the teamsters control my pension, I'd choose Corleone--at least he'd be smart enough to avoid arrest. And I know you'll bring up the cases where companies have inappropriately used pension money, but UPS should be considered innocent until proven guilty (while the teamsters have been found guilty every single time).

The issue of part-time work is a bit more tricky. I can see how it is frustrating for the few part-time workers who do want to be full time (statistics show that most do not) when they see that they can't advance. To them I'd say: If UPS doesn't want part-timers to advance to full-time, then leave. While I might sympathize with your frustrations, hey, life's tough, buddy. Not everyone gets what they want (I say with a wry grin on my face, sipping Champagne on my yacht).
