Activists should be pushing alternative products

JSEN's post has powerful logic. Activists concerned about the ethical treatment of animals are frequently "embarrassed" by the cruelty of nature itself, which seems to refute their efforts at kindness toward other species.
We saw an example here in our community when an activist group here (PETA--People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) recently picketed an Oscar Meyer Weiner truck...The news media made a joke out of it. Some of the activists were embarrassed because they were pointed out wearing leather shoes. Others
brought their very young children with them, and were asked if their kids got "adequate" nutrition by the media.

Nowhere was there mentioned that there are excellent, healthy and delicious substitutes for meat, and those who crave the taste of meat. I think the activist community is missing the boat here. I have not had any meat for years, but I don't miss it at all, because of the wonderful soy substitutes. Why not introduce people to those?

The Dixie Diner's Catalog (800-233-3668) has wonderful, healthy food that tastes, looks and feels like meat, but has almost no fat and is completely vegetarian.

Vegetarians sometimes don't like to even eat things that LOOK like meat. I understand this, but for the rest of us, meat analogues are quite tasty--and they are totally vegetarian. Activists should be pushing those products. It helps the soy farmers and promotes healthier eating.

Activists, where are YOU on this point?
