In the summer of 1997,Miyagi Perfecture will open its doors to the world with "GLOBAL VISIONS EXPO '97," to be held in the port area of Sendai.Our prefecture has a long, rich history of international exchange.The Keicho delegation first ventured abroad in the 17th century.Dispatched by Lord Date Masamune, this bold mission was headed by Hasekura Tsunenaga.
Over the years, Miyagi has remained open to the world. UNESCO chose Miyagi in the early postwar years to establish its first base in Japan, the Sendai UNESCO Association. More recently, we have been reinforcing sea port and airport facilities to keep pace with the demands of internationalization. Under the "Tohoku Intelligent Cosmos Plan," we are now poised to become the think tank of Japan and an international hub of industrial development.We are also vigorously pursuing a program of international exchange with various countries to further broaden our international ties.
We have chosen "One planet. One people." as the main theme of this expo. Our aim is to further promote mutual understanding between the peoples of Miyagi and the world, working hand in hand as global citizens for a common future.
I hope this expo will be a truly enjoyable and fascinating experience for all. Your active participation and support is warmly welcomed and will send a massage to the people of Miyagi that our prefecture is a wonderful place with a promising future.

Individuals,cities and businesses are taking on the news responsibilities of global citizens as they move beyond national borders. The aims of this expo are to create a sound basis for a shared future for the peoples of the world,foster a thriving international network and seek new ways to enhance mutual understanding.We hope this event will send a message from Miyagi and Sendai and contribute to a new shared vision for the world. We aim to utilize a variety of media and events to create a dynamic,inspring expo where all peoples can enjoy and contribute to a shared vision.
