Items worn on the face to correct vision. The time capsule contains one pair for near-sightedness and another for far-sightedness. Many foreigners seem to have the image that all Japanese wear glasses. Certainly, a larger percentage of the population in Japan wears glasses than in other countries. At one time, it was reported that some 40 percent of the Japanese population needed glasses, including elderly people who wore corrective glasses for presbyopia. At EXPO '70, it was common to see many Japanese visitors with eyeglasses walking around, all with a camera hanging around the neck.
