This commemorative medal evokes nostalgic feelings among the generation that experienced EXPO '70, who, at the same time, cannot help speculating how much it would be worth today. Three versions of the medal in gold, silver and bronze were issued in September 1969. Medals totaling ┤6.7 billion in value were issued as a means to raise funds for EXPO '70. Part of the sales proceeds went to the Japan Exposition Association (?) in acknowledgment of its cooperation. In addition, a platinum medal with a retail value of ┤100,000 was also created╤the first commemorative medal of its kind in Japan. This medal sold out as soon as it went on sale in March 1970. All the medals have the same design featuring the EXPO '70 logo. Measuring 27╨34 mm in diameter, they are surprisingly small medals.
