"Waves approaching me on the shore of Suminoe.
I wish you would secretly come to see me in my dream."
(Toshiyuki Fujiwara)

[Sumiyoshi no matsu/Kameno o]

If you walk out the gate and along the long alley, you will reach a small cape sticking out on the pond, where you will see a pine tree called Sumiyoshi no matsu. It is associated with the Sumiyoshi Shrine in Osaka, long worshipped as god of sea voyages, and also with the image of "the Tale of Sumiyoshi", from which the idea of stepchild abuse was adopted in many stories that followed.

This cape sticking out over the pond is called 'Kameno o', the tail of the turtle. It is modelled on Shen Gui, or the God Turtle supporting Xian Jing, or the universe in the old Chinese philosophy Sien Xian, as well as in the Indian view of the universe.
