Fireworks are also popular in Russia, as well as Switzerland and various Scandinavian countries. A fireworks research institute was established in St. Petersburg in 1703, where various new ingredients for fireworks were made. Records of the chemical symbols of the materials used still remain. Unfortunately, the institute burned down in 1709.
