- Before you start planting
your flower bulbs, it's a good idea to first make a garden and
flowering plan. This is quite simple. Particularly if you take into
account the deifferent flowering periods and heights. Then your
spring gaarden can be in magnificent bloom from February (snowdrops)
through July (Dutch iris). And if you plant summer-flowering bulbs
in spring, you'll be able to enjoy a colourful garden until November.
- You'll achieve the most
beautiful effects if you plant several varieties together in clusters.
For example, 10-15 tulips, 7-10 narcissi and 20-25 crocuses. Having
one part of the garden in full bloom usually looks lovelier and more
spectacular than a few blossoming flowers here and there.
You can vary the heights in borders, for example, by planting Anemone
blanda in front and tall tulips in the rear. For flower-box planting,
you can create attractive combinations such as low-growing tulips,
narcissi and grape hyacinths.
Some nice ideas and suggestions are provided in other chapters.
