SINOPE - MOON OF JUPITER

Sinope was the daughter of Asopus and Metope. She is said to have been courted by Zeus (Jupiter) without success. Sinope was the mother of Syrus.Sinope was discovered by Seth Nicholson in 1914.

Orbit
Sinope orbits Jupiter at a distance of 23.7 million kilometres and is, at the time of writing, the outermost Jovian satellite. At this great distance from its parent planet, Sinope takes 738 days (over 2 years) to make one revolution around Jupiter. Sinope's orbit is retrograde - it travels in the opposite direction to most of Jupiter's other moons. Its orbit has a high eccentricity and inclination, indicating asteroid capture as a possible origin.
