The Nursing Mother’s Companion

Now in its third edition from Harvard Common Press, The Nursing Mother’s Companion is considered the “best possible choice among breastfeeding guides for prospective mothers,” according to The Journal of Human Lactation.

Written by Kathleen Huggins, a lactation professional and nurse who has helped hundreds of thousands of mothers successfully breastfeed their children, The Nursing Mother’s Companion carefully guides readers from childbirth through the various stages of a child’s first year, presenting detailed survival guides for the first week, the first two months, two months through six months, and the later months. Each section provides suggestions about what’s normal and explains how to cope with breast pain, leaking milk, underfeeding, and refusal to nurse, and offers specific solutions for these and other common problems. Also included is an appendix of resources for nursing mothers and a list of supplemental reading.
