POP ROCKET PREVIEWS
TOTAL DISTORTIONCD-ROM

Los Angeles, CA ‹ May 11, 1995 ‹ Pop Rocket, Inc., an interactive media company, launches previews today of Total Distortion, the first ³Music Video Adventure Game² on CD-ROM at the E3 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. Atendees of the show can see previews at the Electronic Arts booth #701 near the entrance of the South Exhibit Hall.

Total Distortion combines the creativity of music video production, with the thrill of adventure gaming. The player must pursue his or her new career as a music video producer after teleporting to the dangerous and supernatural ³Dimension of Distortion². Stranded there with limited funds, the player is forced to deal with motley rock star inhabitants, battle guitar warriors, edit music videos, and cut million dollar deals on-line with Earthling TV producers. The user¹s challenge is to earn enough money to travel back to Earth rich and famous.

The gaming system within Total Distortion is very unique‹ rewarding courage, creativity and intellect with fame, fortune, and survival. The player can customize the levels of difficulty and danger for each playing experience. Innovative software devices and 3D animation allow you to quickly assemble music videos, navigate to far-out locations, and interact with the bizarre inhabitants on the Plane of Distortion.

Sparks explains the 'music video adventure game' concept: "...Total Distortion has many of the elements found in Œtraditiona adventure gaming‹- you have an inventory to store and use items, stats for your character like physical health, mental health, life force, and others. You can die of starvation, violence, traps, and more. Talking characters have memory, personality and smarts, and you have long con versations with them. Moreover, it all happens in full-blown multimedia: great 3D animation, over 50 all-original songs, pro voice-overs, giant soundtrack... over 500 megabytes of top quality, custom-created interactive media.

"In most adventure games you're rewarded with things like silver keys or bright gems, but in Total Distortion, the real treasure is Œmedia treasure, as in video clips you can grab with your camera, sound chips, lost recordings, and more. They don't just sit in your inventory, you can take them back to the media station in your tower and actually create long, complex, layered music videos with them. And not just Œpointlesmusic videos either, TV producers back on earth have the brains to dissect your creations, and pay, or not pay accordingly. They know if your trying to cheat them, they know what they like, and it's up to you to figure out what sells in their TV markets. So, the treasures are more than just icons, you have to do something with your treasure. Something creative..."
