Manly High School offers students a comprehensive range of courses leading to the Higher School Certificate.

    All Core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and Human Society in the Environment, are offered and further studies may be chosen from Modern Languages (LOTE), Music, Visual Arts, Applied Science, Physical Education and Personal Development, Industrial Arts, approved JSSTAFE (Joint Secondary Schools - Technical and Further Education) and TRAC (Training in Retail and Commerce) courses.

    The Year 7 and 8 Module is based upon the core subjects; plus LOTE, Music, Visual Arts, Applied Science, Industrial Technology and Physical Education and Health.

    English, Mathematics, Science and either History, Geography or Commerce plus electives from a range of subjects comprise the Year 9 and 10 Module at School Certificate level.

    In Years 11 and 12 English (2 unit) is the only compulsory subject and the student will elect further studies (to a minimum of 11 units) from a range of prescribed Key Learning Areas to satisfy Higher School Certificate requirements.

    Presently, scholastic reports are issued in each semester. The school has initiated a computerised report system which allows each staff member to record the academic progress of all students, plus an individualised teacher comment on their faculty computer, which is then centralised, printed and distributed. The end-of-year report is posted to the family's home address.

    School Days are organised on 6 x 15 minute periods over a 10 day cycle and Wednesday afternoon is programmed for sport every week.

    Catering for Excellence
    The Establishment of a second computer room (with 20 Apple LC's and 3 Laser printers) enhances the capability of the school to cater for the increase in the use of computers in teaching and learning. Further approved courses include Computer Studies, Computer Applications, Design and Technology, Food Technology, Personal Development and Health, Life Managment Skills, Drama, Photography and Exploring Early Childhood.
    Programs for accelerated learning, including individual research and mentorship, are available for high achievers.
    All of the performing arts are available to talented students. The school actively supports drama, choir, string ensemble and rock, jazz and traditional bands. Tutors are available for musicians during and after school hours.
    Career enhancement programs to establish links between the school and the business community include work experience, executive shadowing, school visits to industry, and schools/industry link programs.
    Student Welfare
    Extra-curricular support services are major and constantly evolving part of the school.
    Student welfare systems include:
    • The Deputy Principal and School Counsellor who monitor student progress and assist in proper social orientation.
    • Student (Year) Advisers to co-ordinate all aspects of academic, social, cultural and physical activities of the student.
    • Pastoral Care Advisers to monitor student attendance, participation in school activities, peer relations and child referral.
    • Peer group support schemes for Year 7 students.
    Student Advisers regularly meet their year groups to provide positive communication and peer support. All students are monitored by a "credit" system which recognises individual achievement. Year assemblies are held twice each term and student achievements beyond academic excellence are acknowledged. Student welfare considerations are counselled on a one-to-one basis. Our student wlefare system is dynamic and constantly evaluated to meet the varying needs of our school community.
    Careers
    Students attempting the Higher School Certificate need to have a clear idea of why they are undertaking this two year commitment. Consultation with the full time Careers Adviser and reference to the relevant University and Tertiary course requirements and further information on occupations and their course requirements, is readily available.
    The school is increasing its links to both the business and community sector to provide an on-going professional program which supports the vocational direction of students.
