The PC version of Carmageddon is a highly-regarded and internationally successful driving game. Carmageddon 1 on the PC alone has already achieved sales in excess of 600,000 and the budget version is achieving continued success especially with the introduction of Carmageddon II - Carpocalypse Now!. Carmageddon II - Carpocalypse Now! PC, achieved sales in excess of 200,000 in its first 3 weeks of release.
Carmageddon can be played in a linear checkpoint-to-checkpoint manner like most existing race-games, however most players normally approach levels as a combination of free-form exploration (for hidden power-ups etc) and trying to destroy (in the manner of a demolition derby) the other cars in the current race - it's quite rare to complete levels in any other way.
Carmageddon PlayStation is not a conversion of either of the PC versions. It has been designed to incorporate the 'ethos' behind the original versions but the game has been redesigned from the 'bottom-up' to ensure that a PlayStation version can use all the strengths of the PlayStation and appeal to the slightly different 'typical' PlayStation player.
