The bones
claimed to have been those of Arthur and Gwenevere were placed in caskets and were moved
to a black marble tomb in front of the High Altar in the Abbey. This was done with great
ceremony, during a visit to Glastonbury by King Edward I in 1278.
When the dissolution of the Abbey took place, the tomb was looted and no sign of it
remains above ground level. The spot is marked by a notice.
