This set-up guide picks up from after you have created the mailbox for
the user within FTGate and ensured TCP/IP is installed and working correctly
on the machine you are about to set-up. (Note:
There are several different revisions of Outlook 97. This guide should
help you with all of them. Although the location of some of the fields
may vary, the required information remains the same).

Open Outlook 97. On the menu bar of Outlook 97, click on Tools
| Services – you will see the screen below:
If the 'Internet mail' service is not installed (listed), you will need
to install it, by following the stages below:
(If the 'Internet mail' service is installed see the set-up sheet called
'Connecting Outlook 97 to FTGate when the Internet mail service is installed')
Click 'Add', select Internet mail and click OK
Then you will see the screen below:
I have entered my name in the 'Full name field'.
Next Fill in the other fields
Enter your full email address in the following format user@domainname.com
where user is the mailbox name within FTGate for the user you are setting
up and domainname.com is your correct, registered
domain name.
Internet mail server – This is the name of the FTGate mail server
machine or IP address.
Account name – this is the mailbox name for this user in FTGate.
Password – this is the password defined for the mailbox entered
above.
Click on the 'Advanced Options'
button, you will see this screen:
Enter the name of the FTGate machine or IP address in this field. In most
cases the incoming and outgoing mail server is the same and if this is
the case, this field can be left blank. Click 'OK' to continue.
Next, click on the 'Connection' tab, you will see this screen:
Select the 'Connect using the network' option.
Click 'Apply' and 'OK'
to complete the set-up. You will be prompted to close and restart Outlook
97 so the changes can take effect.
It should now be possible to check for new mail on the FTGate server. Press
F5 on the keyboard or Click the 'Send and receive'
button on the Outlook 97 Tool bar.
