Known problems [Windows 3.x]
There are 2 known issues with the Windows 3.x installation:
- Newsgroups
The Real Name (also known as Friendly Name) and Email Address are not being set for the news client. If these are not set, messages will appear to be coming from Unknown. To fix this, please follow the list of actions below:
- Double-click on Internet Explorer in the Microsoft Internet Explorer program group.
- From the View menu, select Options....
- Click on the Programs tab.
- Click on the News button.
- In the bottom pane, enter your Name
and Email address. The Name entered is how you will be identified in the newgroups.
The Email address is your username followed by @bigpond.com, i.e: if your username
was jsmith, then the Email address you would enter would be jsmith@bigpond.com
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button.
You are now set up for posting news articles. If you have any problems with this procedure, please contact the Telstra Big Pond Customer Support Centre on 131-282 and they will assist.
- STD Dialling
If you are dialling STD to one of the Telstra Big Pond Home Access Points, you may encounter a bug in the dialler which results in an extra zero (0) being added to the front of the number. The way to check this is to double-click on the Telstra Big Pond Home icon (in the Microsoft Internet Explorer program group) and examine the phone number displayed. If it appears similar to 0 03 92900000 then you have this problem. To work around this, please follow the list of actions below:
- Open the Microsoft Internet Explorer program group.
- Double-click on the Telstra Big Pond Home icon.
- Click on the Properties button.
- Delete the leading zero (0) from the area code, i.e: if the area code was originally showing as 03, change it to be 3.
- Click the OK button.
- Check the phone number displayed, it should
now look similar to 0 3 92900000 - don't worry about the space between
the 0 and the 3, it won't affect the dialling of the number.
- Click the Close button.
- Click the Yes button in the Save
Changes? dialog box that appears when you close the dialler.
That should fix the mis-dialling. If you have trouble with this procedure, please contact the Telstra Big Pond Customer Support Centre on 131-282 and they will assist.
