Who holds the copyright
This information is stored in the header of a web pages HTML code. This information is used to let people
know who designed the page and who the page belongs to.
Emulate Window Size
Web pages can be of any size, but generally people try to keep them manageable.
This feature allows Splash! to do just that, in that you can have each and every page
using the same width dimensions. Splash! has 3 viewing modes, they are 640, 800, 1024
which all relate to the width of the project to be displayed in the browser. This means that
you can see just how your page looks under different circumstances.
Normal Mode
Normal Mode (or Edit Mode), is the default mode of Splash! This mode, allows
you to make use of all the Splash! editing features.
Hypertext Mode
Hypertext Mode allows you to test your hyperlinks, without actually
having to preview your page. In this mode you can not edit your project at all, you can
simply click on your hyperlinks and Splash! will take you to that point
in your project.
Hyperlink
A Hyperlink is a pointer in one part of a document that transports you to another
part of the same document or even to another document entirely. Hyperlinks are
also called links.
Preview Project
At any time, Splash! allows you to preview you work in progress. This is done by using either the
preview button at the top of the screen, or through the pull-down menu. Your page will now be shown
through your default browser software.
Preview Browser Setup
Splash! allows the you to use any browser that best suits you. Using this option, you can set
whichever browser you like as the default. Now anytime you wish to preview the page, your chosen browser will be used.
Resizing objects
Almost all objects that are placed in Splash! can be resized, with the exception of some plug-in's.
All you need to do is click on the object to select it. If you now click on the objects bottom-right corner, you can drag and resize
the object to whichever size you like. Please be warned though, you can resize an image
using this method, however all it does in Splash! is change how it is viewed. The actual file size
will not change, and will take just as long to view when downloading the page over the net.
Hint: You can lock the aspect ratio, by holding the shift key while resizing.
Stamps
Stamps are objects that can be pasted onto your page. Splash! contains two stamps
that can be quite useful. These are date, and Splash! stamps.
The date stamp can be used to show when the last time the page was updated. This is automatically
updated when you edit or add things to your page. The second stamp is a Splash! icon, and lets
people know that you used Splash! to create your page.
Exporting Pages
Once you have finished creating your web page, you will need to export it into a form that a browser can
handle. This option does just that, and exports things into a nice orderly fashion.
All
This option will export ALL of your pages, regardless.
Current
This option will ONLY export the page that you are currently viewing.
Modified
This option will ONLY export those pages that have been modified since
you last exported your project.
Range
This option will ONLY export those pages that you choose.
Toolbar
The toolbar, is the object that displays your most commonly used Splash! features.
It allows for easy access to many of Splash!'s powerful editing features.
For your convenience however, you may hide the toolbar, so that it
doesn't get in the way. This can be done from the pull-down menu named Window.
To bring the toolbar back, simply click on Show Toolbar from the same menu.
Hyperlink to Remote URL
The Remote URL, is the internet address to be used as a hypertext target. When editing
a hypertext target, you must specify the complete internet address.
eg: http://www.beam.com.au/~splash/index.htm
Hyperlink to Email
Creating an E-mail hyperlink, requires that you provide an E-mail address.
When the link is clicked on, you can easily send a message to the
designated person.
Site Upload
Site Upload allows you to place your page on the web. This is what you will want to do with your final
product. Once it's on the web, other people all around the world will be able to view your page.
First though, you will need to provide the following information for Splash!
Remote Machine
The remote machine, is the server that stores your web page. This is where you need to supply
the domain name of your service provider. Check with your service provider for further
information.
Logon Name
In order to place a web page on the remote machine, you must have an account. This is the
account name used to login to the remote machine.
Password
In addition to the account name, you must also supply the account password.
Directory
You will need to supply a directory for your web page. This is the location your files
are to be stored within the server.
Usually this would be public_html, but check with your ISP first.
