Comparing Results

You can compare results of separate testing setups on the database window. Result Browser opens the database window view by default on your workspace, with the   results tab active. Here you can see graphs of all projects in the database. If you have Project window active, please double-click on a Database -name in Result tree.

The Database window has five 'Pages':

  • 'Results' -page shows bar charts of your overall score and separate tests on all projects in  the database. Results can be browsed by "back" and "next" buttons and or by choosing a test from the drop down list. For test descriptions please see 3DMark Help.
  • 'Details' -page shows details of results, at one glance, with numbers. To help you compare the projects, best result is marked with little blue triangle on the upper corner of the result and worst marked with red triangle. On the bottom of the details is a list of unsupported features of that project setup. The Details page can also be used to change the sorting of the results by doubleclicking on any of the left-side tests or template settings.
  • 'Projects' -page lists the projects in the database. You can:
    - View projects as a list of short project descriptions or as large icons.
    - Change the sorting of the projects in the database.
  • 'Image Quality' -page is for image quality comparison. Thumbnails of the images rendered by different project setups are shown. Reference images rendered with Direct3D Software renderer are shown on the left side. To best compare images, view them with the Image Viewer. For more information on comparing images, please see instructions below.
  • 'Properties' where you can:
    - Change the name of the Database
    - Choose between using 'Relevant Units' or 'Percentages of base-line result'.

Analyzing Projects

Result Browser Database consists of Projects created by 3DMark. You can analyze results of one project alone by choosing the project from the Result Tree by clicking left mouse button on it. Then choose Project/Open from the Menu bar to open a Project Window on your workspace. The Project Window has four pages:

  • 'Results' -page views a bar chart of your overall score and separate tests. Results can be browsed with the  Back and Next  -buttons and by choosing a test from Test menu. For test descriptions please see 3DMark Help.
  • 'Details' -page gives you a full report of your project. You can find description of 3DMark Project, Project Settings, Test Results, Your System, Processor, Desktop Settings and 3D Accelerator you have used.
  • 'System Info' -page includes categorized information of the testing setup in the project. This information is the same as in 3DMark's System Info.
  • 'Properties' -page. On Properties -page you can edit the Project name and Add your own comments.

Comparing Images in the Image Viewer

If you have run the Image Quality Tests from 3DMark, you are able to compare the images rendered by your 3D Accelerator to the Reference Images made with the Direct3D Software renderer. For a more technical documentation about Image Quality tests, please see 3DMark Help.

NOTE: The Reference images are not examples of a perfect image. They are images rendered with the Microsoft Direct3D Software renderer. The Direct3D Software may have its own faults just as any other software or hardware renderer. Image quality is subjective to the personal preference of the viewer. Clearly visible bugs or missing features should be judged differently than a rasterizing method used by a certain piece of hardware.

For more information on what you can do with the Image Viewer, please see the Image Quality help.

File Types

The Result Browser is capapable of reading two file types:

  • Projects [ Project Icon ] with a .3dp file extension

Result Browser saves the databases in a .3db [3DMark Database] format.

You are also able to save individual Projects in .3dp [3DMark Project] format if you have an active Project Window open. This should be only used if you have edited the project name or added new comments in the Project Window Properties.
