Resizing and Cropping

Skitch is designed to make cropping and resizing super simple.
What you see is what you get. *With the exception of very large images.

What is Resizing?

Resizing means changing the size of an image, screen Snapshot or sketch. For example, you may have a photo of your dog, and you want to make the photo smaller for an email you are sending.

You can simply grab the resizing corners of Skitch and resize to the size you need. Now whatever you drag out of Skitch via the 'drag me' will be the size that you can see.

What is Cropping?

Cropping means cutting off the edges of a picture to make it smaller. In Skitch, you can do this by grabbing the cropping borders and dragging.

You can also use cropping to create extra room around the Snap you took. For example, you may like to create some white space around your Snap for room.

Some Tips:

*Normally Skitch works in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get way because Skitch is designed for sharing images online, or in emails, etc. That is, usually, Skitch expects that when you send a picture to someone, it will be so they can view it on their computer monitor (which approximately is 75-100dpi), unlike paper, which is usually a denser 300dpi). If you want to send photos which will be suitable for printing (but will appear overly large on your friend's monitor) then you will need to use the 'Export at original size' checkbox. Sending files with with 'Export at original size' export checkbox ticked will result in larger files (and take longer to send via email etc.).

When you use 'drag me' you will see the file size printed on the thumbnail. Keep in mind that anything above 3 Mb (=3000kb) will usually be too big to email. In this case, you might like to use webpost, and send the recipient the URL for the image. Remember that larger files will take more time to upload.
