Sample console input/output
The following is a sample of the prompts issued by the program (in black) and the responses by the user (in red). The two entries in purple indicate places at which the user did not type a character, but instead typed <Return>.
Enter the title of the piece (maximum length = 31 characters; spaces are permissible, but no em-dashes, colons, or en-dashes, please!), followed by a "%" sign and a <Return> or <Enter>, depending upon your keyboard layout.
My Glorious Masterpiece%
Enter the set in one-digit integers, separated by commas; for pc numbers 10 and 11, use "t" and "e" respectively.

You have asked for a matrix based upon a set containing 5 members.
Is this correct?
Enter y or n.
y
The default action of this program is to produce a straightforward matrix whose upper left-hand pitch-class number = 0.
However, you may also avail yourself of one or more of some of the specialized options offered by "Matrix maker."
If you want to choose or review these options, type y; otherwise, type n.
y
You have entered a set whose first pitch-class number is not 0.
Do you want the S0 form of the set left as you have entered it? (In this case, a fixed pitch-class 0 = C is assumed. All subsequent operations will be performed upon the unaltered set, which may or may not result in a matrix that begins on 0.)
If so, type y; otherwise, type n, in which case the set that you entered will be transposed to begin on 0.
y
This program offers the option of choosing among some of the more esoteric twelve-tone transformations, namely
1. multiplicative transformations,
2. rotation, and
3. "Stravinsky verticals."
Options 1 and 2, if you choose to use one or both of them, may be performed in any order.
If you want to choose either option 1 or 2, type the number;
otherwise, press <Return>.
[The user in this example entered <Return>.]
Do you want your matrix to be displayed in the form of "Stravinsky verticals?" (See the accompanying documentation for a reference to an explanation of this type of matrix, if necessary.) Enter y or n.
n
Do you want pitch-class names to appear under the pc numbers in your matrix?
Enter y or n.
y
The program has successfully computed the data for your matrix!
To continue with the formatting of the matrix, press <Return>.
[Here the user entered <Return>.]
After the user enters <Return>, the execution of the program continues.
Note that this is a specific output that results from specific input and is provided as only a sample; this sample produced the matrix called My Glorious Masterpiece :

You will notice in the scan of the printer output on a PostScript printer that there are some differences in the spacings of the text strings when the printed output is compared with the screen appearance:
These discrepancies will also be addressed in v 3.1. (The slight difference in the apparent sharpness is due to the fact that the second image is a scan at a relatively low resolution.)
