Import

Import the palette locally:

  1. Make sure you're in Netscape.
  2. Open the OneClick editor and click on the Palette tab.
  3. Click on the New Palette popup menu and choose Import Palette…
  4. Select the Navigator palette with the Global box unchecked.

Set preferences path

After you've imported the Netscape palette, you should be prompted to choose two folders:

If you are not prompted, click on the Prefs button on the palette and choose Set Netscape prefs path.

The typical locations for these folders are:

    Your HD
       |
       |-- System Folder
              |
              |-- Preferences
                     |
                     |-- Netscape Users
                            |
                            |-- Your Name
                                   |
                                   |-- Cache ƒ

While these locations are typical, they can be anywhere on your hard drive. If you have any doubts as to your Netscape prefs location, just open up your Netscape Preferences window, click on 'Advanced' and then 'Cache,' and click on the 'Choose…' button. It should open up to the current cache folder. Maybe.

If the Toggle Images and Toggle Java buttons don't change color and the Delete Cache button doesn't work, the Netscape preferences path has not been set correctly.

Choose Netscape version

menuClick on the Prefs button to pick your version of Netscape. I've included several different flavors of Netscape with this palette, but there are more versions of Netscape 4 out there than I'm willing to download. If the 'Toggle Images' and 'Toggle Java' buttons are not toggling where they should, you'll have to figure out where the clicks should be clicking and then set your own version.

You need two numbers:

To calculate these numbers, open up the Netscape preferences with no Netscape windows or pages open. Count the number of preferences up to and including 'Advanced.' (E.g., Appearance, Fonts, Colors, Navigator, Identity, Advanced = 6).

Now do the same thing with a window open. This should yield a number that's 2-3 higher. Next, select the Set own version option on the Netscape Amigo Prefs button. Enter the number of prefs with no windows open, then the number of prefs with windows open, and you should be stylin'.
