Topic: Backup type

There are different types of backup. BackUp Maker supports the most popular ones. This topic describes the types of backup available in BackUp Maker.

Tab sheet: Full backup

Click on the Full backup tab if you wish to perform a full backup. This backs up all selected files, even those that have not changed since the last backup.

A full backup is the simplest type of backup, but it takes up more time and storage space than the others. We recommend this type of backup for novice users, since it is foolproof and makes sure that all data is backed up.

Option: Execute only if new/changed files available

Enable this checkbox, if you want to ensure that a full backup is only performed if at least one of the files has been changed since the last backup. If there have been no changes in any of the files, no backup will take place.

Note: This option does not take effect if combined execution has been activated!

Tab sheet: Partial backup

In addition to a full backup, BackUp Maker also provides a partial backup. This type backs up only some of the selected files. Depending on the setting you have chosen, they will be the files that have changed since the last full backup, since the last partial backup, since a particular date or within a particular period.

Option: Since last full backup

Enable this option if you want to back up only those files which have changed since the last full backup. This also includes any files that were newly created since that time.

Option: Since last partial backup

Enable this option if you want to back up only those files which have been modified since the last partial backup or which were created since that time.

Option: Since dd.mm.yyyy

Enable this option if you wish to back up files only which were changed or newly created since that particular date.

Option: Within the last dd days

Enable this option if you wish to back up files only which were changed or newly created within the time range indicated, where "dd" is a placeholder for the number of days.

Note: Since last full backup / Since last partial backup

Note that with either of these options, the first backup is always a full backup. Subsequent partial backups then use this initial full backup as their starting point.

Option: Combined execution

Enable the Full backup after x partial backups option (where x is the placeholder for a value between 1 and 50) if you wish to combine full and partial backups. Depending on the value of x, a full backup is then performed after the specified number of partial backups. Any partial backups always use the last full backup as their starting point.
