Filtered Black & White: Creates dramatic black and white pictures from color photos. Filtered Black and White will work as if you were using a color filter with black and white film: the filter blocks or enhances certain colors in the picture.
To use Filtered Black and White:
1. Choose a color picture and click on the Filtered B&W tool. Your picture will turn to black and white.
2. Click the Pick Color tool and choose a filter color. You may want to experiment with several colors to see which gives you the best effect.
3. Adjust the Strength slider until you are satisfied with the strength of the filter.
You can get very dramatic effects with landscapes and portrait shots when using an orange or red filter. A red filter will darken all non-red colors, and cause red and pink tones to turn nearly white. A red filter makes almost all skin tones look paler and creates contrast, while a blue filter darkens skin and can highlight blemishes.
Most digital camera noise is in the green channel, so if you want to make a sharp looking black and white picture, try a green filter (though that's not too attractive for portraits).
