On the File menu, point to Add to Media Library, and then click By Searching Computer.
In Search on, click the search option you want to use.
If you want to add files from a specific folder, in Look in, type the path to a specific folder, or click Browse to select a specific folder.
Click one of the following options:
New files only (fast)
New files and existing files in library without media information
New files and all existing files in library (slow)
Optionally, click the AdvancedOptions button, and then select one or both of the following check boxes:
Add files previously deleted from Media Library
Add volume leveling values for all files
Click Search.
Links to all digital media files found in the location specified are added to MediaLibrary. Links to music are added to your All Music category and links to video are added to your All Video category.
Notes
If you click <User-selected search path> in the Searchon box, you can type the path to the folder without mapping a drive letter.
You can also search for files to add to Media Library by clicking Options on the Tools menu, and then clicking SearchforMediaFiles.
If you share your computer with another person, the other person's digital media files may get added to your Media Library and vice versa when you add files by searching the computer. You may not be able to play the other person's files, depending on which operating system you are using, and the permissions set on the folder that contains the files.
The advanced search options that you specify in the AddToMediaLibraryBySearchingComputer dialog box apply to the contents of any folders that you add to Media Library and any folders that are being monitored for digital media content.
The folder monitoring feature is only available on select versions of Windows and on drives formatted with NTFS. For more information, see Special features.
