Owning a scanner has been a semi-rewarding experience. Since it's a USB device, it works fast, although Windows doesn't always recognize it as it should. All hardware problems aside, let's talk about your scanning routine for a moment. Are the colors coming through like they should? No matter what kind of flatbed scanner you're using, you should also have a piece of non-reflective black paper in hand (construction paper should suffice). You'll want to put it behind the object you're scanning. This way, the excess light will be absorbed; the digital duplicate's colors will be closer to the original source's. It's a relatively cheap "upgrade" that yields fantastic results.
