From the "Hello, I love you--won't you tell me your name" department: Lockergnomie Rhyddian Olds found a way to make networked computers' listings more descriptive. It was brought up specifically for use in NT4 (but may work in W2k). First, you'll need to launch your registry editor. You'll find that the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ CLSID \ {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} contains information regarding the Desktop icon for 'My Computer' -- by changing the name of the icon directly in the Registry, you'll give that icon much more functionality. Select the value and delete it; from the Edit menu, select Add Value; leave the value name blank and set the type to REG_EXPAND_SZ. Click 'OK' and enter the following text: "%USERNAME% on %COMPUTERNAME%" (without the quotes) then click 'OK' again. Close the registry editor, click once on the Desktop to select it, and press F5 (refresh) for the change to take effect.
