There are more "characters" available to you beyond what you see on a "normal" keyboard. After all, if we had a specific key for every character, our keyboards would take up enough space to park a car on. Sure, we don't use extended characters often, but when we do need them, there are a couple of ways to retrieve them. The easiest (and most obvious) way is to use the Character Map which should have been installed with Windows. Another (more direct) way is to use the number code for that particular character. You'll need to use the ALT key & your Number Pad: hold onto ALT and type "0162" (without the quotes) on your Number Pad... when you let go of the ALT key, a cent symbol should appear (¢). 0162 is the designated number for that particular character. To view a character's number, select one using the Character Map, then look in the lower right-hand corner of that window--it should give you the Keystroke combination. Remember, too, that characters could vary from font to font.
