1.3 Registering Formulas
Formulas is Shareware, and costs $12.00.
The Formulas Demo will work for a 30 day trial period. At the end of the 30 Days,it will stop working. To avert this tragedy, you will need to get in touch with Stand Alone to register your software. You can register with us by several different methods.
You will need to include the following information, no matter how you choose to register. Most importantly, you need to include your name EXACTLY as it is entered in your PalmPilot, including spaces. We use this to generate your password, so it must be precise. You will need to specify which programs you wish to register, and include payment for each of them. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. If you are using normal mail, you can send us a check as well. Make sure to include your card number, the expiration date, and what type of card you are using. You also need to give us a way to get in touch with you. Email is the preferred way, followed by your address and phone number. An Email address is not strictly necessary, but it will result in much faster service.
For instant gratification, register by phone, and pay using Visa or Mastercard. To do so, call (773) 477-2492 and we will give you a password right over the phone.
Alternatively, you can send us a check to the address below.
You can also Email us at sales@standalone.com. Just Email us the relevant information, and we'll send you a code. If you are registering through Compuserve, use, GO SWREG.
Once you register, you will receive a password from us. You can install this password one of two ways. There is an option to Enter Password via the Enter Password option in the menu. Tap on it to bring up a screen that has a space to enter the password.

2.2

Selecting Formulas

Tap the menu silkscreen button and pull down the menu under the word Formulas to switch between various applications, or use the Graffiti commands.

2.3

Shortcuts

You will find that, unlike some other Pilot apps, Formulas does not require you to tap the screen every time you want to move down a line. Instead, simply tap the line you wish to move to, and voila! you are there.
The aforementioned Clear button is also an easy way to undo any mistakes you may have made when entering digits.

The Formulas

In this section, you will learn how to use all the applications in Formulas for the Palm OS.

3.1

Area Codes

Area Codes can help you find any area code, based on city, state, or even the first 1 or 2 digits of the area code in question. You may even use this application to find the city or state to match any 3-digit area code.
Simply enter the Graffiti digits or letters you wish to track, and plow forth. You have 3 options: city, state, or area code, which change when you tap and hold the little arrow next to the current word.

3.2

Currency Exchange

This application is your own personal bank and international currency headquarters! Select 2 countries from the list, and enter a number into each blank for the amounts you wish to compare (ex: inputting 1 US dollar yields .62401 British pounds). The default setting is always set to 1 of each currency you select, unless you enter a different number. You may also alter the exchange rate itself, as values of international currencies are constantly fluctuating. Simply enter the rate, make the top country the constant, and solve for the bottom nation...

3.3

Date Conversion / Calculator

This function enables you to effortlessly calculate the number of days until your birthday, Christmas, next year, or whichever event you choose.

Be creative: figure out your age in days, or calculate how much time you have to buy next year's Mother's Day gifts...

Note: If you tap the option for Today when the calendar appears, the date automatically selected is the current date.
Example: If you wish to figure out which day is a week from today, enter Today's date as the Start Date and input 7 on the line marked Number of Days. Then, the answer will be calculated for you and displayed on the End Date line...

Date Converter also provides you with the day of the week (Sun-Sat.) and numerical day in the year for each date you input or receive as a solution. Even the numerical week in the year for each specific day is calculated for you...

The possibilities are endless!

3.4

Loan Payments

Use this application to compute those numbers you dread the most: the amount of money you owe (or will owe) to loans...

Input a base amount in the line next to the word Amount, and then add in any variable you wish: the interest you will also owe, the number of months you will take to pay off these loans (Note: you must compute this in months, as there is no option for years. So, for 10 years, you must input 120 in the space for Months)

Your total payments and the total amount of interest you will have paid are then shown at the bottom of the screen next to their respectable titles, for better or for worse!Caution: This program cannot solve for the initial interest you were charged... You must input this rate to generate the final interest rates and the amount total.

3.5

Metric Conversion

This convenient guide allows you to solve equations for 6 popular metric conversion units, as shown below.

Simply tap on an option in the main grid to change functions. The current option is always highlighted.

3.5.1 Temperature
Enables you to find the temperature in both degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius
3.5.2 Length
Allows you to convert units from and into inches, feet, yards, miles, centimeters, meters and kilometers. Select conversion units by tapping and holding on the little arrows next to each setting, and input the numbers you wish to convert in the lines next to these units.
3.5.3 Liquids
compare units in Fluid Oz., Pints, Quarts, Gallons, Milliliters, and Liters. No more faulty estimation! You may choose either British or U.S. liquids.
3.5.4 Area
Provides the options of inches2, ft.2, yards, acres, cm2, m2, and hectares.
3.5.5 Weight
Presents you with the conversion units of ounces, pounds, tons and long tons, grams and kilograms.

3.6

Tip Calculator

No calculators or finger-counting needed! Simply input the amount of the bill, the amount you wish to tip, and both the tip and the total (tip included) are calculated for you on the lines below.

Note: You may also input a bill amount and a total amount and then solve for the accompanying tip percentage.
