Osmose is a tool to make multimedia presentations. This document describes a step by step creation of a three slides presentation. This type of text shows the actions to be achieved to perform this tutorial, the rest of the text describes the context of these instructions.
Osmose makes a distinction between the ideas and the style. The ideas are managed by sets of elements that contain a title and multimedia content. Strucuration of these elements gives trees, and generates slides if they are put on the publication line.
The structuration space contains:
To add elements in the structuration space, doubleclick on the central space. A rectangle appears and you can type a few words to give it a title.
Add 14 elements named:
All these rectangles represent ideas that will be part of the presentation, but no structuration is yet made so those ideas are not yet usable to create a presentation.
While creating your elements, you may have noticed that links were created when elements were close to each others. These links allow you to organize your ideas in trees. To create a link, move an element under another. And to remove it, move the element far away from the father element.
Organize your elements in order to obtain the following tree:
To delete an element, move it in the trash. You can also remove a part of a tree by moving the father in the trash. To cancel this, click on the trash.
When the presentation is complex, it can be usefull to have child elements far away from father elements. To do that, press the Alt key while moving the child, in order to prevent the link to break. Moreover, it is possible to navigate inside the structuration space by clicking on the arrows located at the top of the window. The central button allows you to go to the initial position.
To make the tree structure more readable and easier to handle, you can doubleclick on a father element to hide all his childs. Another doubleclick will expand the tree, and the childs will be visible again.
It is also possible to give a color to an element by clicking on one of the coloured buttons.
Created elements contain only one title, but it is possible to add multimedia content in order to have a multimedia presentation. Content types:
To insert multimedia content, select an element, and add content using the window named Multimedia Editor. Each element can have one multimedia content of each type.
Add multimedia content to some elements. You will notice in the structuration space, that an icon corresponding to the multimedia type appears under the element title. Clicking on these icons makes it possible to reach directly the multimedia content in the multimedia editor.
Slide genereration is done automatically according to the structuration. You have probably noticed a line that cut the structuring space . This line, named publication line, makes it possible to define which elements will generate a slide. An element placed on this line will create a slide whose title will be the title of this element, and whose content will be based on all the child elements. Generated slides are visible in the design window.
It is possible to navigate by clicking on the arrows located in the left space of the design window.
After the slide generation, it is possible to come back to the structuring space to add elements, change the multimedia content, put new elements on the publication line, etc. Each action will automatically modify the generated slides.
In the design window, you can move and modify the size of the objects. It is also possible to apply a theme. You can modify the theme in the Document/Themes... menu. Change parameters to see the difference. It is also possible to define a custom model that can be applied to one or several slides. In the theme window, it is possible to define a new model. The attributes of the new model are inherited, uncheck the boxes Inherited to change the attributes. Once the model is created, it is possible to apply it to a slide by clicking to the button Model of the design windows.
Go in the menu Document/Themes..., change some parameters and observe the new appearance of the slides.
Then, create a new model in the theme window, and apply it to a slide.
It is possible to add a text note and a sound note to each slide. In the design windows a text field allow you to enter a note and there is a Record button to record a sound note.
It is possible to generate a title slide for the presentation. By clicking on Documents/Options..., it is possible to activate or deactivate the creation of this slide. Information contained in this slide can be defined by clicking on Documents/Informations...
Change the presentation informations and visualize the title slide in the design window.
It is also possible to have an automatic table of contents slide. The slide generation and the depth of the table of contents can be defined by clicking on Documents/Options....
Change the depth of the table of contents and display the result in the design window.
It is possible to visualize the presentation in fullscreen mode by clicking on the menu Documents/View. It is also possible to visualize in fullscreen mode with the sound notes by clicking on the menu Documents/View with audio comments. Navigation is done either with the space bar or with keyboard arrows. The Escape (Esc) button allow you to leave the fullscreen mode. Clicking on an image or a video allows you to see it in fullscreen mode.
Activate the fullscreen mode and navigate.
