Ballistic Manual

INTRODUCTION

This manual gives basic instructions for using Ballistic, a simple ballistic calculator for the Palm series of PDA's.

DESCRIPTION

This application is a simple ballistic calculator. By inputting a range of variables such as bullet mass, muzzle velocity and distance Ballistic works out the following parameters:

The results can be solved for a single distance or a table of the results can be output. This software is free and may copied and distributed. It should be noted that the results for the calculations are only valid for supersonic bullet velocities i.e. greater than 1200ft/s

INSTALLATION

Unzip the ballistic.zip file to a folder and double click on the ballistic.prc icon in the folder. The program will be installed at the next hotsync. The zip file also contains a copy of this manual and the license is contained in a file called readme.txt. This can be viewed with any text editor or word processor.

USING BALLISTIC

This section describes how to use the Scorebook program.

Main Screen

This is the screen which appears when the program is first started. It allows the user to the following variables:

There are three buttons at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on the Solve button prompts the user for a distance and the ballistics are then solved for that distance. Clicking on the Table button prompts the user for a Start distance, End distance and an Interval. The ballistic results are then displayed in a table format between the start and End distances in steps of Interval distance. Clicking on the default button resets the variables to the default set the program came with.

Please note that the values calculated are only valid for supersonic bullet velocities i.e. over 1200ft/s. If an error occurs in the calculations then the output is ERR. Also note that the elevation calculated is the elevation needed on the sights based on the values input for Zero distance and Zero setting. For example if the weapon is zeroed at 300yds and the sight setting was zero minutes then solving for that distance will give an elevation of zero. To find the actual angle the barrel has to be elevated set the Sight height and Zero setting to zero and the Zero distance to one.

Table Screen

The Table Screen shows a table of the results. If the number of results does not fit on the screen than a scrollbar will appear at the right hand side of the screen and this allows the user to scroll through the results. If results are too large to fit in the columns then an ellipsis (...) is added to the output.
