AutoFill
AutoFill allows you to quickly complete forms and enter user names and passwords on web pages. When you encounter a page with a form, you can use a toolbar button, menu item, or status bar item (
) to have OmniWeb fill in as much of the form as it can. When OmniWeb fills in a text field, the background of the field will draw yellow.
OmniWeb populates your AutoFill settings automatically each time it starts using information found in the database used by the Address Book application provided with Mac OS X. The AutoFill preferences can be used to specify additional information OmniWeb should use when filling in forms.

OmniWeb will automatically save any text you submit in a web form and will use it for filling in other forms and for Autocomplete. This setting is also available on a site-specific basis under theBe aware that this setting will save all of the text you enter into forms, including credit card information, in plain text format inside OmniWeb's preferences file.
When enabled, OmniWeb will prompt you to save your login and password information for web sites in your Keychain whenever you enter this information on a web site for which there is not already a user name and password stored. When prompted to store a user name and password, you can select to never have OmniWeb ask you again for that particular site. Remembered user names and passwords are automatically filled in when you return to the site once the page has finished loading. You can disable the automatic filling of user names and passwords, as well as the save prompts by unchecking this setting.
User names and passwords that OmniWeb stores and retrieves can be managed using the Keychain Access application provided with Mac OS X (normally found in /Applications/Utilities/.
Locations, Fields and Information
OmniWeb allows you to store multiple sets, also called Locations, of AutoFill information. OmniWeb creates different locations automatically each time it starts using information found in the database used by the Address Book application provided with Mac OS X.
For example, if your own Address Book card contains phone numbers and addresses for both Home and Work, OmniWeb will reflect that with different locations. OmniWeb also creates a special Shared location with data that is shared across all AutoFill locations.
You can create a new location or remove existing ones using the + and - buttons below the Locations list. Double click the name of a location to edit it. You can not remove or modify the Shared location, nor any of the locations automatically created from Address Book.
While browsing the web, you can switch your active location for AutoFill by selecting the set from the AutoFill Set item in the View menu. Changing the active AutoFill set adjusts the values OmniWeb uses when filling in forms.
For each location, details are shown to the right when the location is selected. The details for each location are divided into different sections to indicate where the data came from. Information obtained from Address Book is under the heading of the same name, and another section displayed data from the Shared location.
To add and remove your own data to a location, use the + and - buttons below the outline. You can not delete any of the data that comes from the Shared location or Address Book.
The Field Name is the text that will be matched against to determine when a form element should be filled in with the corresponding Value. When page authors create forms, each form element gets a unique name associated with it in the source code for the page. A form element asking for your first name might have a field name of fname in the source code. OmniWeb comes preconfigured with a list of element names that should be treated as equals such as firstname, givenname, and first. See Synonyms for more information.
For the most part this will allow AutoFill to do its job on most forms, but if some form elements are not filled in correctly you might want to manually fill in the correct information and then save those values to your AutoFill set using the
item in the menu. This will take the field name assigned to the form element by the page author and associate it with the value you entered in the form, ensuring that the next time you come across that form or one with the same field names, OmniWeb will be able to AutoFill the correct data for you.You can have OmniWeb automatically save all form data you enter for future AutoFill use by enabling the
setting noted above.Alternatively, if you're comfortable with HTML, you can inspect the source code of various pages yourself to determine the required field names for the data you wish to have AutoFill enter for you.
Synonyms are alternative Field Names that OmniWeb should treat the same as the Field Name itself. Each item in AutoFill can have a number of synonyms assigned to it and OmniWeb comes configured with a number of them already defined. To specify a new synonym for a Field Name or to inspect synonyms already assigned to them, select the item in the list and click the Synonyms button at the bottom right-hand side of the table.
Autocomplete can also assist you when filling out forms by offering a pop-up list with completions for various terms as you type them into form fields. To select an item that OmniWeb has suggested, use the arrow keys to highlight it in the list and then use the spacebar to enter it into the form.
