About WAV to MP3 Encoder
WAV to MP3 Encoder is one of the most powerful conversion tools on the internet. This program makes creating custom MP3 soundtracks a snap. Compress WAV files and encode them quickly and easily to the small, yet rich-sounding MP3 file format. Also, you can choose from a multitude (over 40) of bit rates, sampling rates and channels. You can preview WAVs before encoding them, and encode them to custom file sizes for portable MP3 players. WAV to MP3 Encoder features an intuitive WinZip-like style interface, where you can add unlimited files for quick batch conversion. The Encoder creates a very small memory footprint, so you can smoothly multitask during conversions. Best of all, this software is free, and will never expire.

Getting Started with WAV to MP3 Encoder
1. Choose "Add" from the top list of buttons
Then find the directory where you have the MP3s you want converted to WAVs.

2. Then choose "Output"
Choose the directory where you want your encoded MP3s to be placed. Tip: Use a directory that is easy to remember so that you can find your files quickly when conversion is finished.

3. At this point you may:
- Preview any of your selected WAVs in the filelist.
- Add more files to the conversion list.
- remove individual files from the list.
- clear the entire list and start over.
- set your Encoding Properties from the Options menu.

4. Now choose "Encode"
This will begin the encoding process. All WAVs in the large pane will be converted to the MP3 file format. You can stop the conversion process by clicking on "Stop" at any time.

5. Share your MP3s, create custom playlists, or use them with your portable MP3 player.
All your WAV files are now encoded to the small, yet high-fidelity MPEG 1 Layer3 (MP3) file format! Have fun!

Definition and Overview of Key Features
WAV to MP3 Encoder is quite simple to use. Check out the definitions of features below.

Add
This adds files to the list of WAVs ready for conversion. You may only add .wav files to the list. Make sure you don't add WAV files with a 0-byte size (files that don't play), or lower than 16-bit WAVs, because the encoder can't encode these currently.

Clear
Clears all the WAVs that are selected for conversion in the filelist.

Preview
This will play the currently selected WAV from your filelist, plain and simple. WAV to MP3 Encoder uses an Active X control (a Microsoft system component) to play the WAVs you select.

Encode
This will begin the encoding process. It will convert all the WAVs in the box to MP3s. If you wish to stop this process press the Stop button. WAV to MP3 Encoder uses the fastest and most efficient MP3 Encoding Engine available. For more info about our engine, email us.

Output
This chooses where you want your converted MP3s (WAV files) to be placed. Choose a directory where it will be easy to find your WAVs.

Stop
This button simply stops the conversion process. When it is pressed all files are removed from the filelist.

Options Menu > Change Encoding Properties
By default MP3s are encoded at 128Kbps. You can, however, choose to encode your WAVs to MP3s of over 40 different bitrates, and several sampling rates. Choose between stereo and mono encoding. NOTE- you must choose to encode to 22 KHz sampling rate if you are encoding a 22 KHz WAV.

Troubleshooting and Common Errors
- Missing file errors (Runtime 339) MSVBVM60.DLL or MSCOMCTL.OCX
If you experience missing dll or OCX errors, such as Runtime error 339, the fix is simple. MThree software requires certain system components to run correctly (Visual Basic 6 Runtime files). These necessary files are published by Microsoft. Go to www.mthreedev.com/support.html to download these necessary files. Run the downloaded installers and your problems will be fixed.

- Other Common Errors
.mp3 Comes Out Fuzzy or Distorted
This happens when your wav file has errors in it. Such problems as skips, missing bytes or a corrupted file will cause the end product to come out incomplete or poor sounding. Your wav can have these problems if it was decoded from an mp3 at a low bitrate or if its ripping process was interrupted. To avoid this problem, make sure your WAVs are of the highest quality. This means that your WAV should not be missing any of its song and is ripped fully and properly from the CD.
NOTE- you must choose to encode to 22 KHz sampling rate if you are encoding a 22 KHz WAV. Currently our encoder does not support 8-bit WAVs.

.mp3 Play At Double The Regular Speed
This occurs sometimes if your wav has errors in it, as explained above, or there may other culprits. Sometimes your computer has troubles converting certain wavs, because of your computer's configuration (hardware and software). Some processors have trouble running the decoding algorithms our decoder goes through. We suggest that you try different encoding options. Try changing the encoding properties such as sampling rate (change to 22Khz). This will normally solve your problem. Make sure your WAV is a 16-bit digitally signed WAV (common for Music files).

Encoding Process Gets Stuck
This happens, again when your WAV has errors in it, or if it is not a 16-bit WAV. Missing bytes or corrupted areas of the song can disrupt the encoding process. Your wav can have these problems if it was decoded from an mp3 at a low bitrate or if its ripping process was interrupted. To avoid this problem, make sure your wavs are of the highest quality. This means that your wav should not be missing any of its song and is ripped fully and properly from the CD. Our encoder typically takes only seconds to encode each MP3, so if it takes too long, you know you should change the sampling/bitrate or your WAV is unsupported.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- How do I add files to the file-list for conversion?
Click on the "Add File" button. You will see a prompt showing the last directory your computer used for WAVs. Click on the file you would like to add, or select multiple files, and click Open. The files will be added to the list, showing the filename, and path. Please note that WAV to MP3 Encoder will only display WAV files in the add files list.

- Can I change the bit rate or channel I encode at?
Of course you can. Simply choose Options -> Change Encoding Properties, then choose your bit rate and channel preference. This will encode WAVs into MP3s using those exact specifications. We recommend 128kb/sec and Stereo - this is almost equivalent to CD-quality sound and preserves an optimum small file size.

- Where are the converted files outputted?
If you click on the Output button, you will be prompted to select an output directory. Alternately, if you add files and click convert without defining an output directory, the prompt will appear and you may select the directory.

- When I click "Encode" , it says Busy: Working on... How long will it take to encode WAVs?
The speed of encoding is dependent on many factors. Bitrate, encoding type, speed of processor, amount of free memory, OS, etc... can all contribute to different levels of performance. Some files are encoded into much larger mp3s than others, due to the complexity and size they were created with. Typically our encoding engine is very fast, taking only a few seconds to encode MP3s. If the encoder gets stuck, it is likely because of an unsupported WAV file (we require 16-bit WAVs).

- Oops, I added the wrong file and clicked Encode. Can I stop the process?
Yes. You will notice that once you click Encode, a Stop button pops up. While the bottom menu reads "Busy:" you can press Stop at any time to abort the decoding. Please note that if you are converting a large filelist, and Stop the process in the middle, the WAVs that have already been outputted as mp3s need to be deleted from the output directory.
