Definition and
Overview of Key Features
MP3 to WAV Decoder is quite simple to use. Check out the definitions of features
below.
Add
This adds files to the list of MP3s ready for conversion. You may only add .MP3
files to the list. Make sure you don't add MP3 files with a 0-byte size (files
that don't play), because the Decoder can't decode these.
Clear
Clears all the MP3s that are selected for conversion in the filelist.
Preview
This will play the currently selected MP3 from your filelist, plain and simple.
MP3 to WAV Decoder uses an Active X control (a Microsoft system component) to
play the MP3s you select.
Decode
This will begin the decoding process. It will convert all the MP3s in the box to
WAVs. If you wish to stop this process press the Stop button. MP3 to WAV Decoder
uses the fastest and most efficient MP3 Decoding Engine available. For more info
about our engine, email us.
Output
This chooses where you want your converted MP3s (WAV files) to be placed. Choose
a directory where it will be easy to find your WAVs.
Stop
This button simply stops the conversion process. When it is pressed all files
are removed from the filelist.
Normalize
Normalizing the volume of your outputted WAVs is a very useful feature. Some of
your MP3s may be different volumes from others, and if you want to burn them on
a CD, normalizing will eliminate differences in volume. This is the best way to
have consistent sounding audio. By default, normalizing is set to 95% of the
peak volume.
Troubleshooting
and Common Errors
- Missing file errors (Runtime 339) MSVBVM60.DLL or MSCOMCTL.OCX
If you experience missing dll or OCX errors, such as Runtime error 339, the
fix is simple. MThree software requires certain system components to run correctly
(Visual Basic 6 Runtime files). These necessary files are published by Microsoft.
Go to www.mthreedev.com/support.html
to download these necessary files. Run the downloaded installers and your problems
will be fixed.
- Other Common
Errors
.wav Comes Out Fuzzy or Distorted
This happens for one of two reasons. One is when your mp3 has errors in it. Such
problems as skips, missing bytes or a corrupted mp3 can cause the end product to
come out incomplete or poor sounding. Your mp3 can have these problems if it was
encoded at a low bitrate or if its download was interrupted. To avoid this
problem, make sure your mp3 is of the highest quality. This means that your mp3
is not missing any of its song and is encoded at higher then 32 kbs/second. Our
decoding engine can decode some corrupt MP3s, but not all of them. The second
reason is if the MP3 is an 8-bit MP3 (our decoder can only output 16-bit WAVs).
Currently MP3 to WAV Decoder does not support cross-sampling, meaning turning
8-bit MP3s into 16-bit WAVs.
Decoding Process Gets Stuck, or quits in the
middle of decoding
This happens, again when your mp3 has errors in it. You can get errors such
as "ActiveMP3 - Error UnregisterClass". Missing bytes or corrupted
areas of the song can disrupt the decoding process. Your mp3 can have these
problems if it was encoded at a low bitrate or if its download was interrupted.
To avoid this problem, make sure your mp3 is of the highest quality. This means
that your mp3 is not missing any of its song and is encoded at higher then 32
kbs/second. Your MP3s should have a sampling rate of 44.1KHz for best results.
Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQ)
- How do I add files to the file-list for conversion?
Click on the "Add File" button. You will see a prompt showing the
last directory your computer used for MP3s. Click on the file you would like
to add, or select multiple files, and click Open. The files will be added to
the list, showing the filename, and the ID3 info. Please note that MP3 to WAV
Decoder will only display MP3 files in the add files list.
- Where are
the converted files outputted?
If you click on the Output button, you will be prompted to select an output
directory. Alternately, if you add files and click convert without defining an
output directory, the prompt will appear and you may select the directory.
- When I click
"Decode" , it says Busy... How long will it take to decode MP3s?
The speed of decoding is dependent on many factors. Bitrate, encoding type,
speed of processor, amount of free memory, OS, etc& can all contribute to
different levels of performance. Some files are decoded into much larger WAVs
than others, due to the type of encoding they were created with, and the bitrate
and filesize of the original MP3.
- Oops, I
added the wrong file and clicked Decode. Can I stop the process?
Yes. You will notice that once you click Decode, a Stop button pops up. While
the bottom menu reads "Busy& " you can press Stop at any time to
abort the decoding. Please note that if you are converting a large filelist, and
Stop the process in the middle, the MP3s that have already been outputted as
WAVs need to be deleted from the output directory
