Why open an entire window when all you want is a particular icon? Here's a great way to get DIRECT access to system icons. Right click on the Start button and choose "Explore", create a new folder, and then name that folder one of the following lines. BE SURE to rename those folders exactly as they are typed below, or else this won't work. You don't have to use all three of them, either. Any combination should work for you just fine:

Dial-Up Networking.{992CFFA0-F557-101A-88EC-00DD010CCC48}

Thinking about getting a new computer? You might want to wait a few months before getting one. Intel will have a new chipset out soon (BX) which will support a 100MHz bus (and 100MHz RAM), Windows 98 is right around the corner, and DVD prices are dropping weekly. It seems like the next sweet spot might be around Christmas (my opinion). Of course, if you can't wait much longer, try getting more RAM for your system. Prices are extremely LOW right now.
How many icons do you have on your Desktop? Okay, now how many do you really NEED on your Desktop? Try a little spring cleaning, eh? While you're at it, move them to the right side (top) of the screen. Why? Ever notice that when you download something or copy something to the Desktop, it appears on the left side? Well, this way, things will essentially remain uncluttered.
I was originally going to list a handful of tips I discovered at this site, but I figured YOU should visit the site instead. I can't believe the amount of tips that were there (some I'd never seen before): http://www.chami.com/tips/windows/
