No doubt you power users have heard of Microsoft's RegClean before. It's basically a nifty utility that cleans out "useless" and 'dead end' registry entries... Microsoft recently yanked it off their site because it causes problems with IE4. So, if you've got IE4 installed, don't use RegClean at all until Microsoft releases a new version (I'll let you know when they do, trust me). I've heard unconfirmed reports that you can still use it if you don't have the Active Desktop or shell integration features of IE4 turned on. Your best bet is still to wait until Microsoft releases a new version.

I went out to eat the other day and saw a guy who had a modem hanging from his neck. Here's a tip, gang: Don't do that. Not only will your connections be lousy, but you'll look like a dork. Not that dorkiness is bad... just that... modems aren't a fashion statement (or ARE they!?).

META tags are the best way to help search engines (and other programs) recognize and categorize the information found on your site. They must be placed between the <HEAD></HEAD> tag. It defeats the purpose if you're dishonest with your information, so try to play fair? Here's a list of the most commonly used ones (at least, the ones I use at Lockergnome.com). Note that the ROBOTS tag is for those sites who want all of their subsequent pages indexed as well. You should change the following content info to reflect your page(s):

<meta name="author" content="Who made this page?">
<meta name="owner" content="Who owns this page?">
<meta name="description" content="What is this page about?">
<meta name="keywords" content="What, words, describe, this, page?">
<meta name="copyright" content="When did you make this page?">
<meta name="contact_addr" content="who@madethispage.com">
<meta name="rating" content="general">
<meta name="robots" content="all">

If you'd like to squeeze as much juice as you can out of your video card, quit using background images. Why? Because however big that background image happens to be is exactly how much video memory it takes up. Sometimes they're over a MEG in size! To change your background image (in case you didn't know already), right click on the Desktop and choose Properties. The Background tab will display a list of BMP files (Bitmaps) which you may use.
