Sometimes you'll be reading an e-mail message (or news post) and suddenly get stuck when you come across an unfamiliar acronym. I thought I'd show you some of the more commonly used ones I've seen online. Remember, WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get):
TTFN = Ta-Ta For Now.
IMHO = In My Humble Opinion.
BTW = By The Way.
BRB = be right back.
J/K = Just Kidding.
LOL = Laughing Out Loud.
OIC = Oh I See.
ROTFL = Rolling On The Floor Laughing.
IRL = In Real Life.
10Q = Thank you.
FWIW = For What It's Worth.
FYI = For Your Information.
HTH = Hope This Helps.
NOYB = None Of Your Business.
OTOH = On The Other Hand.
RTFM = Read The Fine Manual.
TIA = Thanks In Advance.
TTYL = Talk To You Later.
YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary.
ISP = Internet Service Provider
I know some of you are dying to defrag your disk at 3am every 1st Tuesday of the month. Well, if you're not--let IE4.01's Task Scheduler do it for you (just another advantage of upgrading to IE4.01). You can tell Windows to perform certain tasks at certain times... then "forget" about it. To download the scheduler, first you need IE4 (or 4.01). Click on Help | Product Updates and then look for the Task Scheduler section of the page.
It's important. You jot it down at work, thinking that you'll remember to take it home. You don't. You can't remember what you wrote down. Here's a suggestion, if you've got Internet e-mail access from both home and work, e-mail yourself a message "to do" something instead of writing it down. If you're at home, e-mail your work address. If you're at work, e-mail your home address. You'll never forget about something again (batteries not included).
Want to log the date and time of a text file when using NOTEPAD.EXE? Hit F5.
Telling the different versions of a program is difficult to do unless you launch the program and it shows the version number somewhere. Try this: right click on an EXE (or DLL) file and select the Properties. If it is a 32-bit program that was created by a good programmer, chances are it will display the version number first thing. You can look at other great information about the file, too.
