Setting performance options

Use the Performance tab to specify the network (or Internet) connection speed, the amount of time that streamed content is buffered, or choose the video hardware acceleration that you want your video hardware to use.

To access the Performance tab

The following options are listed on the Performance tab:

Detect connection speed (recommended)

Specifies that you want Windows Media Player to detect the speed of your modem or the type of network connection you have.

Choose connection speed

Specifies the speed of your modem based on what you select.

Use default buffering (recommended)

Specifies that the default settings for network buffering are used.

Buffer for <seconds> seconds of content

Specifies the buffering time (up to 60 seconds). The longer the buffer time, the longer it takes for streaming content to begin playing.

Video acceleration

Adjusts the video acceleration capabilities of your video hardware. Drag the slider to Full to use all available video acceleration. Drag the slider to None to use basic video acceleration settings that work with most video hardware.

Advanced

Click to customize Digital Video (DV) resolution, video acceleration settings, and DVD video settings. The default settings are appropriate for most users. You should only modify these settings if you fully understand the capabilities of your video hardware.

Restore Defaults

Click to return to the default video acceleration settings.
